How can I get the surface alignment of a 3D object in screen space? I found this example which, I believe, is aligning the UV coordinates to the 3D vectors (which are determined by their current position and the spawn position) then fading them based on how perpendicular they are to the viewing vector.

UV coordinates to the 3D vectors

I'd like to base this on, perhaps, a position pass image. I was thinking I could somehow export the 3D point positions in screen space and generate a map of those points with their directions like the one above. It would be even better to generate lines based on neighboring points.

Position Pass

I'm very inexperienced in these matters, so layman explanations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
